Consider looking at Atlantic British, they offer 3 different levels of scanners, read their write up and decide what will work best for you.
As for the codes, once you get them, get back to us so we can help you make since out of them.
So you know, most scanners will do the engine, they will not however do the ABS,SLS or SRS which takes a much more complicated scanner.

If that happens again, don't tug on the wires, many people have had problems with their scanners not being able to communicate with the ECU and it is usually because a pin or one of the wires has been pulled loose.
