occasional amber ace light
I bought my '03 disco last october and have noticed an intermittent amber ace light which seems to happen only when I'm driving on the interstate for more than 30-45 minutes. If I stop and shut of the disco and start it up again, I may or may not see the amber light again after another 30-45 min on the highway. Other times, I can drive for a couple of hours and not see it at all.
My solution was to suck out the ace reservoir with a basting syringe to flush the system and admittedly got too aggressive and broke the screen on the bottom so I got another used ps/ace reservoir off of ebay. I did a 5 quart flush until everything coming out looked like fresh power steering fluid and called it good. The amber ace light popped up again on my next highway drive.
Looking at the reservoir today (after only a week or two of driving) the fluid is dark colored like it was before the flush but interestingly enough, when I pulled the filter to clean it the fluid that came out was beautifully clean/honey colored power steering fluid. The filter was so clean it looked new but I thoroughly flushed it with brake cleaner and let it dry. I even blew it out by mouth and air flowed freely so it didn't seem plugged up.
I have no codes and everything seemingly works well. Any help or suggestions would be welcome. I plan on throwing the kayaks on it this weekend and I don't mind the occasional amber light because the ace system is working but I'm scared to be out in the middle of nowhere and have the light turn red.
