Default OEM Brush Guard

Hello there,
well I have a OEM Brush guard that I am going to be putting on. I do have everything needed too :-)
well started cleaning it up and sanding down and was just going to spray it with herculiner.
well found parts of it that was peeling off. Now I am scraping it off with a razor knife lol
yeah so much a quick clean up

Get it sand-blasted and then re-powder coated.

The cause of the issues is these did not have drain holes, water gets inside and it rust from the inside out. You can sand and recoat, but the rust is going to come back. The only way to permanently resolve it is to strip completely, then either acid dip or remove the internal rust via electrolysis. Then you have to internally coat it before you coat the outside. Sorry for the bad news. I have one that needs the same thing.

yeah them bottom tubes are sealed right up

Let me guess I removed the lower bar as in the pic and cut the front bumper to fit the bracket mounts

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe electrolysis has to be line-of-sight. In other words, the rusty part needs to have a line-of-sight to the anode. It wouldn't work on the rust inside the tubes for that reason. That being said, I bet you could swish around some rust-mort inside there to at least stop the rust.

I have to do the same thing as OP on my brush bar and plan on drilling drainage holes at the bottom.
