Hey just wanted to share my experience doing the thermostat mod from the point of view of a novice. For all you noobies out there who aren’t convinced, I’ll assure you this fix is the first thing you should do when you can. For perspective with the OEM thermostat I consistently hit 215-221F at cruising speed on the highway with an UltraGauge. Just did the mod yesterday morning and did about two hours of driving throughout the day on various errands. Now it idles at 178F and never got above 185F at 70-80mph. Engine runs quieter than ever and has lessened the ticking to “not so alarming” level. As far as the install goes, I can say it was not too bad far having limited automotive tools. I got it done in maybe two hours. I recommend getting extra hose clamps for the new connections as the factory clamps don’t fit over the new hardware. One other suggestion that may not be perfectly obvious is you really should take off the lower radiator hose to fully drain and make the splice easier to fit on the ****** nipple. Otherwise, a BIG thank you to Extinct for engineering this fix and laying out the instructions for us all.
Sounds like you are getting pretty typical results, glad to hear things went well for you. What was the temperature thermostat you were replacing if you don't mind sharing?

it says 92C so that converts to 197F does that sound right for factory original?
Since I'm having to replace the valley gasket, I may as well do this while I'm at it. Best4X4, thanks for the gasket part number. I ordered that, too, as I like the cleaner setup.

Where did you order the HP Gasket. None of the auto parts stores near me carry it.
I picked mine up locally at O'reilly's, but my Auto Zone also had one made by Mr Gasket which was nearly identical except it had an orange gasket vs grey. It was on the high performance isle at Auto Zone & up by the carb parts at O'reilly's.
Also neither store knew they had em in stock. When I walked up with it at O'reilly's the look on their faces = priceless...

I'll have to check them out. Would certainly save me a few bucks if they have one in stock.
