Default Oil drain plug replacement

Found nothing relevant to my questions in search. The oil drain plug does not tighten up firmly anymore so I need to replace the plug. I can order one online but I was wondering what the specs of the plug/bolt are so I can try and hunt something down at a local hardware store.

you might need to overbore and tap your pan. Sounds like the threads are going if it won't tighten.

OE ( LSF100040L ) size is M14 X 1.5 (IDK the length), but as abran pointed out you will probably need to oversize the plug or use a Timesert. If you are looking at a local auto parts stores try a Dorman 65217

Never heard of over overboring. How do I do that exactly? Just did a oil change yesterday so Id hate to have to drain all the oil. I may end up buying an extra washer and aome rtv to hold things over until the next 3k oil change.

Thanks for the info

You would need to remove the bolt to apply the rtv and new washer so you are screwed anyway. Just collect the oil in a clean pan and reuse it.

You needed to drill the hole in the oil pan to the next largest size, and then tap threads in the new hole. Then purchase the bolt to match. Like the others said, the bolt is steel and the pan is aluminum, rock beats scissors.

Also some teflon tape on the threads might buy you an oil change or 2.

you could also try teflon tape, RTV, and a Fumoto drain valve as a permanent solution.
