Oil Leak Behavior -- Any Guesses?
Go figure. So that's what the "stickies" are for. Duh on me.
OK so some questions about the PCV mod procedure:
1. Purchase the FV308 PCV from either Rock Auto, Ebay, or your local parts store. got it
2. Disconnect the clamp holding the breather hose onto the OEM Black Plastic Nipple. got it
3. Remove the breather hose and then using a 14mm box end wrench remove the OEM Black Plastic Nipple. got it
4. Thread the FV308 into place, and re-install the breather hose and breather hose clamp. got it
5. Remove the breather hose clamp on the opposite end going to the passenger valve cover and the breather hose. got it
6. On 99-02 models spray a bit of carb spray into the hole to loosen it up, and then gently pull up and remove (remove what? the baffle?).
On 03-04 models you will actually have to remove the nipple from the valve cover. I've had success with using
electrical tape around the nipple and then gently twisting it out. Once out remove the baffle and then drill out the
hole in the nipple. Then re-install the nipple into the valve cover. So you need to remove the nipple to remove the spiral baffle? You can't just fish it out of the nipple in-place on the cover like on a 99-02? And why drill out the valve cover nipple a bit?Do you need to widen the opening that much for flow or can you just pull out the baffle and be done with it?
7. Re-install the breather hose and hose clamp and you are done.
BTW, it looks like my son broke that other hose connector in front of the PCV hose on the intake manifold somewhere along the way as that has been replaced by a brass 1/4 pipe thread-to-barb fitting. Looks like something he got at home depot and then he just self-tapped it into the plastic seal ring on the intake manifold.

@Sixpack577 you can do it by dropping the transmission too, that is how the shop did mine - it is easier and cheaper as I understand it.
@austinlandroverbill when everything is clean the oil will most likely be at the bottom of the bellhousing, the problem is leaks from up top also end up there. You can add a dye to the oil that glows under a blacklight that can help. If you get under there you will see a little round cover with 3 bolts on the bellhousing, if you take that off and it has a ton of oil on it it is likely the rear main - trust me you will know. if it is bone dry then it is more likely up top.

Usually, it'll break and crumble.
It's easy if you have the valve cover off, and all you need to do is knock the separator out, and leave the tube clear and empty, as the pcv on the other end replaces it.

the baffle will pull straight out of the tube on the early trucks, but the later ones have a different setup which means that you can't pull it out that way. the tube is mostly closed over on the top.
it should be possible to pull the entire tube out of the rocker cover. remove the baffle, clean out any sludge, then tap it back into the rocker cover again. you might even be able to remove the cap that closes off the top, leaving you with just a plain tube.

@austinlandroverbill On the 04 and 03 land rover decided to make an easy task hard, by putting a cover on top so you can not get the plastic thing out. Lots of carb cleaner around the base and inside, then set of needle nosed vice grips VERY IMPORTANT only at the very top or you could crush the tube, and gentle left/right turning while applying upward pressure got mine out, tiny bit of cursing helps too. The drill out is just for better airflow.
What's the deal with the pipe tubing cutter?
Did you use that as a wedging tool of sorts to get under and pop the top on the separator nipple?
Or did you actually have to cut off the top of the nipple itself?
Looking at the on-valve cover nipple, it looks like the perfect scenario for a small metal screw and slide hammer to pop it out?

@austinlandroverbill that should work but you do not have a lot of room to put the screw in. The problem with the separators is they get completely clogged and you get very little air flow leading to over pressure.
That tube is just a press fit - but it can be really hard to get out
