Before pulling the valve cover or cut the thing, try to pull the tube. They are quite loosely plugged in, it is never a press fit. Clean at the connection, then wiggle the tube with the hose left on so you have better grip. If that doesn't come off, try it with clamps. My tube always comes off with ease.

In 03 the EPA ratcheted up the emission requirements, LR put the restrictor in the valve cover tube to reduce the oil crankcase vapors ingested by the engine. The good news is the disc makes it easier to remove the tube from the valve cover. Grab the disc with a pair of vise grips and twist to work it out of the cover. I cut the disc off the tube using the tubing cutter because the PCV valve is a better solution than the OEM LR baffle (every other major car manufacturer uses PCV valves, only LR uses that BS baffle that plugs up) and I did not want to restrict the flow in to the pcv valve. Just drill out the plastic, it is garbage anyway.

Will post an update once I get to it tonight.

And Extinct you are indeed a nut job -- and it takes one to know one -- and need an intervention on Discos like I do in Porsches (9 in all: 1973.5 911 -- star of the collection, 4x 1986 944s (none run yet, hope to get 3 out the 4),1986 928S, 1988 924S, 1999 Boxster 2.5, 2000 Boxster 2.7 -- all that's missing that I still want is a 914). Oh, and I have a bunch of other stupid useless cars as well (case-in-point: an X1/9) plus a Kawasaki Ninja. We must be twin brothers of different mothers.

And a BSME to boot. My son -- the prior owner who foolishly downgraded to a Focus -- is a BSME from Texas A&M, now doing a PhD at Georgia Tech. In his eyes, I'm just a lowly MSEE, and my son always points out how much better MEs are and that all I know how to do is plug a lamp in.

Still, his loss is my gain. Love the D2, every time I get in it makes me feel like Queen of England surveying one of my hunting estates somewhere in Scotland. Did you see where an '04 D2 with 50K miles went for over $16,000 on BAT? These may become collectors someday after all.

Lastly for all the gearheads in the world, saw a showing (premier?) of Ford v. Ferrari at Austin Film Festival last night, in turn-of-century, old-school Paramount theater. Awesome, gotta be the best gearhead movie ever, better than Vanishing Point, Le Mans, American Graffiti, etc. Coming to theaters Nov 15th.

oohh, love the 86 928's, came wicked close to buying a White 84 with checkerboard seats in 94. It had a bad miss at WOT, at that time troubleshooting computerized vehicles was much harder than it is today so I took a pass

Extinct, you missed out on a great car: we call it our German Corvette (got one of those as well, a '73, unique year, plastic nose, chrome rear bumper with flip tail).

Actually got the 928 for almost free ($1,500 plus shipping) as a 2-fer from the guy I bought the 924S from (he bought a pristine one, wanted the OK one out of his car barn -- call me lucky). Only problem was a bad 2nd gear syncho.

Same way we ended up with a D2. Son's friend's dad blew it up (slipped sleeve), told my son if he gets it out of his driveway the title's his, so my son dragged it home (without first asking his parents if he could), rebuilt engine for about $2,220-2,500 (machining and parts -- my money), drove it thru college. And same story for one of the 944s as well -- one of my son's friend's dad gave it to him as well (wife wanted it out of a barn stall so she had more room for her horses). Call me the patron saint of abandoned cars. Or an old cat lady -- except cars follow me home, not cats.

Didn't get to the PCV valve, had the slave cylinder go out on another car yesterday, that took priority.

But doing it today. Nice weather, 60s and sunny.

And Richard, if you love the GT40, go to movie, get the whole story.
