I have a 04 disco and for some time now I have had oil dripping from the rear of the motor. Not 100% sure where. I have noticed when I get home if I park facing the garage on our slight hill of a driveway it will drip a very small puddle. But if I back in I barely see any drops on the driveway. Wondering if its rear seal. I did replace the oil pan gasket a few months back with just the gasket and no rtv and didnt have any leaks for a couple months. Just curious if anyone has an idea of where it could be coming from. I have 124k on the motor. Also heard that its rare that the rear main seal leaks.

 

Sure it is oil ? Not gear oil from transfer case - sure you know its not transmission fluid

 

No, not to sure, can’t get a good smell out of it but noticed my oil level was a tiny bit low.

 

Oil leaks are tricky, they simply run down to the lowest point, with out indicating the source. I would clean the heck out of it with degreaser and a power washer from underneath and keep watching it every day until you find the leak.

 

Yeah, Im gonna have to. Its pretty scattered from driving.
