Default OIL LIGHT

RARELY THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON OR FLICKERS WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING SLOW AND ROUGH RIGHT AFTER STARTING.
CONCERNS?

first, check your oil level. That light is telling you the pressure is below what it should be. Might want to do an ATFflush (search on here) and then drop you pan and clean everything out..

Hard to give good suggestions without the year and mileage....if

ATF flush isn't a bad idea if sludge is the culprit, but if you do a search on these forums you'll find that the 2003 Disco's were prone to oil pump failure and catastrophic engine failure as a result. I'd be on the safe side and get your oil pressure checked before you do any more driving; Atlantic British is having a sale on new motors, but I think you'd like to avoid that

Some 03's had bad oil pumps from the factory, maqny people have lost their engines over this issue. I would suggest you call me so I can walk you thru what to do ASAP before you become of of those unfortunate ones.

X2 on that. I was going to add that if yours is an 03, you could have big problems lurking. Call Mike...

I dont know if im going to be able to sleep! Luckily I bought an extended warranty if she doesblow!I have a 2003 that has just started to develop some lifter noise/valve tapon the passenger side. The last time I changed the oil it was about a half court low but couldnt find a leak. What do you guys advise? I was going to do an ATF engine flush and have the oil pressure checked in the next couple of weeks. SHould i have the pressurechecked first thendo the clean out?Should I be ordering up an oil pan gasket for this piggy just in case I need to drop the pan and clean out pickup tube? Disco Mike?

I just did another flush and finally pulled my pan this weekend. I had new sawy bar end links to install, so I figured what the heck. I am glad I did. I noticed a slight tick when i would run my RPMs up. The pickup tube was clogged, oil passages were gross in the heads and the pan was goopy. I decided to pull the valve covers, intake and valley pan after seeing the oil pan. Should have just gotten a head gasket kit and sent the heads off while I was in there, but I really like doing things twice.

She runs like a champ. I was floating a lifter, I am guessing due to a clogged oil port. luckily, the cam looked ok. This also cured my 2500 RPM vibration. I pulled about 1.5 quarts of sludge out and I could eat off the inside now. Can't wait till spring to pull the heads and see what the combustion chambers look like...
