Default Oil Light

Good Afternoon All,

Last week my oil light began to come on. It typically comes on when the engine is cold but turns off when the engine warms up. Has anyone had that problem? Is it serious? I have 2002 Disco 2 with 68,000 miles.

Anytime the oil light comes on it is serious. It should only come on when you start the engine and then shut off after a few seconds, if it is REALLY cold then it can stay on for 15-20 seconds.
If it is coming on while driving then you need to pull over right away.
First check the oil level, is it full?
If it is then you need to have a pressure test done, they will check the oil pressure at idle and at road speed.
If the oil level is fine most likely it is a bad sending unit, but you do not want to wait on this, no oil pressure WILL explode your engine and then you are looking at $7500.

You either have a bad pump, main bearing or an oil sender.
You need to right away have someone do an oil pressure test cause if it if correct, you will damage your engine very quickly.

Good Morning All,

Here's an update. yesterday I had the engine flushed. Immediatly after the flush the light came on and my valves were taping like crazy. After 5 mins the light went off and no valve noise. But now the light comes on during idle. This morning I took it to a mechanic. He advised me that my oil pressure is fine. He will 1st chance the switch and see where we go from there.

I welcome all input.

I would suggest you call me, it is stime to go past the flush. Do not run the truck until you can go the next few steps, oil pressure test and pan removal to clean out the oil pick up tube.
