Default Oil pump disaster 04 discovery series ll. 4.6 V8

Hello room, My Land Rover Discovery Series 2. Has suffered a oil pump disaster. An the oil pump broke into many pieces an in which case blew out the timing cover. So I need a new one. An OEM cover is just absurd at $600 but worried that a used cover would probably have wear grooves an putting in a new pump on a used housing will just go out again. An a new aftermarket cover comes with the pump, but worries me that it won't oil right and or leak an just be a nightmare. Any help would be great. I'm a car guy but have never touched a Rover before.

that's what was left of the oil pump and that is what happened to the cover

Well as to used I have a used one in my garage there is no grooving of significance. The oil pump cover has a few grooves, but you can barely catch a finger nail on the worst ones, a mirror finish would be nice but I don't think they a lot better new.

Yep Rock Auto has em for $246.79 for the entire 03-04 front cover and you can't honestly beat that.

Default Oil pump

no the price is fine, my concern was Chinese junk parts, poor fitment an possibly poor oiling factor. Is why I didn't want to go that route. But Saturday I picked up a perfect 2003 Land Rover Discovery ll HSE with the 4.6 that has 74,344 miles on it, only both cats are missing. I got it for $50 an the front cover looks brand new when I opened it up an took out it's oil pump. So I'm no longer worried, I'll buy a new oil pump an timing chain gaskets ECT an put it back together an hope there isn't any rod nocks or main bearing noise.

no never would I put in a used oil pump! C'mon now. I just wanted a OEM timing cover that as not damaged. An I didn't want a Chinese piece of junk. And Saturday, I got a early 03 Land Rover Discovery ll 4.6 with 77,460 some odd miles on it. Took it apart an it had a perfect cover no grooves chips or any oil pump damage. An then I went an ordered a brand new oil pump gaskets timing set cam sensor ECT.
