Default The one I might buy tomorrow... Your thoughts?

Submitted for the approval of the Land Rover society...

I've pretty much already bought this one- there's money holding it and I'll be picking it up from Florida tomorrow.:

Burgundy, 2004 LR Disco w/ 53k miles

I just pulled a CarFax. I can't attach it here, but here's the Gist:

Sold to a personal owner in December of 2004 in Bradenton, Florida (about 20 miles from where I'll be buying it from).

LR Service performed regularly every few months, with little things fixed here and there, such as a brake light switch and a window regulator. Here is one of two problems that I noted: in April of 2007 when it had 37k miles on it, it was serviced and had a "no start condition checked". Does that mean it broke down or wouldn't start?

Everything else looks perfect- one owner the whole time.

Except for this: The vehicle was repossessed in July of 2008.

Do you guys think the last owner took it out and beat the crap out of it when he/she knew they were going to lose it? I'm guessing it was a guy, because of the big tires on it.

The body had one small dent that was removed when this dealer got it that you can no longer see evidence of, and he says the frame, engine, and interior are all like new.

The rear sunroof also didn't work, which he is fixing today.

Does anyone have any thoughts, or anything like that? Anything I should watch out for?

He also said the tires a a bit too big and rub if you crank it off, but I'm not worried. He offered to put smaller ones on, but I kind of like the big ones.

THANKS guys.

In true "Me" fashion, I didn't try to ...Christian... him down at all.

Don't tell my dad... he'd kill me.

whats the blue book price? I would try to get him below blue book...tell him you're not sure about buying a premium only gas guzzler in these times of uncertain gas prices

do '04s have the ABS shuttle valve problem? If so, you might want to make sure that has been replaced.

The blue book on it is 12k, so I'm not too worried about it. It has to be absolutely perfect though, in order for me to buy it. If I get even the slightest of weird feelings, I'll be flying back.

Not sure about the shuttle valve- thank you for the tip!! I am going to look into that.

10K seems like a decent buy if it's in good shape. Two things though: Yes, the shuttle valve problem extends to '04's, mine was replaced at 49K right before factory warranty expired...would have been a $1600 repair w/ labor (according to stealership). Some have had success w/ the repair kit, but more often that seems like a band-aid. Number two, replace that front drive shaft before you even drive it off the lot.

Really, did the front driveshaft thing apply to '04s as well?

I don't thing I'm going to be able to replace it until I get it back home.... unless I took one with me and asked to use their tools... lol...

1,200 miles on top of 50k should be okay.

I was slightly exaggerating, but get your u-joints replaced pronto. No difference in the drive-shaft issues, same as every other w/ non-greasable double cardons.

Looks like a decent deal. Hope it is as good in person as it appears in pictures. After all the agonizing you have done about buying and the cost of plane tickets I really hope it works out.
