Default OOhhhhh god!!! i think i ruined it!

so im sitting at sonics tonight and im messing with the RPMS to see if the idle was setting right. (Just put in a new IAC valve)

So the person leaves the next window so i without paying attention slam the car into Drive and the LR just peels right the **** out.

Now my shifter is just...Destoyed, A square part is around it and it gets stuck when i shift into park. or 1st.

Please tell me i just need to put that square part back in the right place...PLEASE DONT SAY I RUINED MY TRANNY!

D1 or D2 ??? I remember when shopping for a Disco, that all D1s had that plastic part around the shifter rod all @#$%? up. I doubt very much that you ruined your tranny, its not like you went from drive to park, you just went from park to drive. Unless I'm mis-reading you.

Remove the cover from your shifter on the console and the sliding piece and see if it shifts okay. Let us know if a DI or DII and if you need instructions on how to remove the shift lever cover.

It is a DI.
Rovers are not meant to do hole shots.

You're so sensitive Spike!

The AT's on the Discos are supposedly indestructible when well maintained so you're probably ok...

You will need to find it in the RAVE manual.
The "PRND321" cover comes off, there are 2 clips at the back? and then it slides off, I had to remove mine to replace the light bulbs that light up the "PRND321" but I did not go any deeper than that.
I found that in the RAVE CD.

you can get the tape on http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/RTC6683.cfm I think.....It will be for a RRC. I got one for mine. There is a cover on the top of your shifter the prys out. You can remove the clip for the shifter button under there, then slide the handle off. Then you can pull out the ball thingy. That square on the ball thingy is supposed to slide in the groove, attached to the shift tape (that is now torn). With the tape torn, it will hhave to be replaced. To get to it properly, you will have to remove the entire center console. Lots of fun on that one.... Check RAVE for that removal.
