Default Original water pump in your Disco2? Maybe you should change it...

In addition to what you see in the pic, it took out the radiator (pieces of the fan blades) and maybe the alternator (the sudden coolant bath)...~155K miles, btw. M

Not enough to be seen....I was losing about a cup a month but could never find the leak.m

What actually failed? Based on the damage to the impeller in your pic it looks like a catastrophic failure of the pump bearing that caused the pump shaft to wobble, starting the chain reaction.

Where were you when this happened? Must've been an "Oh ****" moment. Were you in a place where you could get off the road quickly and safely?

That's exactly it. I'm hoping there aren't too many curly metal s;livers in the block....

So, the alternator turned out to be fine (for now, anyway) and I bought a boroscope and saw nothing in the block, so here's hoping I'm done with it...nothing like spending $1K on a car worth $2500, lol....
