Default Owning a second set of tires and wheels?

Just wondering if anyone else has done this?

My 2003 S Disco came with the standard wheels and a nice new set of medium aggressive offroad tires. I may have to do some interstated highway driving with little chance of going off road or in snow or mud and was thinking about picking up another set of wheels on the Internet and put a set of good street/highway tires. I'm just thinking of saving wear on my offroad tires and getting a quieter highway ride.

Any thoughts on an 18" or bigger rim or just stay with 16"?

I have seen sets of 4-5 wheels with decent tires for $400-600 on Ebay.

Any thoughts?

Chris

on our range rover we have a set of 19"s with michelin synchrones for summer and a set of 16"s with goodyear mt/rs for winter/offroad. we would just leave the mtrs on all year but they are too damn loud. what kind of "medium off road tires" do you have? a lot of times, those tires last forever and are pretty quiet.

I would put a set of BFG AT's on in a 245/75/16 and forget about the second set of tires.

Yeah, save your money. Unless you are buying a set of steel wheels and putting snows on them just get a set of good AT's like Toyo Open Country or Cooper S/T's and call it good.
Very little road noise and will still get you through 90% of anything that you will encounter.
The Coopers for example are 60% off-road and 40% on road tread design.
