Default Oxygen sensor help

2004 D2. Upstream passenger side sensor replacement.

Cannot get the plug (connector) part off the chassis. Cannot see it well to find out how the plug is retained to the engine and the side of the plug with the tab is facing away from me so I cannot get a screwdriver in to release the connection.

What kind of retainer holds it in? I cannot really tell from feeling it and don't want to just pry away. Just need to know how to get the plug off the engine to swap ot out. Driver side was sinple, but passenger side is killing me!

I'm certain mine pulled straight up, but that might have been due to a damaged connector, and not locking or engaging. Good Luck.

Well my lovely and talented wife was able to get her hand far enough to depress the clip and pull enough on the wires to get it disconnected so all is good. Still do not know what kind of retainer is used and hopefully will not have to do again to find out.

Just for future reference: It's a two part ordeal. First it's pull the whole plug assembly off the metal tab on the vehicle, then the second is pull the two plastic parts apart with a separate tab.
Helps to have a trained spider monkey on hand too.

What is really needed is one that is easy to get at to practice before trying to do it with your arm buried deep in the innards and the drive shaft pressed up against your face.

Could never get it off the metal. Still have no idea how it is attached. Makes you want to find a LR design guy and kick them in the nads.

That sentiment has been expressed frequently and vigorously through the years on this and other Rover forums. Maybe that's why the Rover engineers and designers lie low and are never heard from on these forums. 😊

Once removed from the metal strip you can reroute them so the oil from the leaklng valve covers wont run into the connector

really hard to get off.
You first need to get it off the metal tab without breaking it.
Then you need to use two hands up there to press and pull.

I think I was able to get it off once by leaving it on the metal tab
and then pressing in on a tab.

Best to look and study the O2 connector and know exactly what you should press before you guess.

There is a good chance you will break the plastic part that locks it to the metal tab and it will just be in mid air and eventually find the exhaust pipes?

Be careful R2

Make sure when replacing the front 02's, to replace both for equal air fuel ratio to both banks, always clean the connectors with electrical contact cleaner and use die electric on the connections before connecting them thus stopping and oil from getting in and messing up the new 02's.
