Default Oxygen Sensor difficulty replacing on 2000 Disco2

I needed to replace a bank 1 O2 sensor after having the check engine Light come on. On his OBD2 Analyser he said it was Bank 1 Sensor (I Didn't get code #). When he was trying to extract the sensor from the manifold he felt it would strip out or brake under pressure. He didn't want to get involved any deeper so he cleared the code and I guess I'll do it myself or find someone familiar with a 2000 Disco2.. He mentioned it is in a very difficult spot to get to. He also used penetrating oil on it and tried repeatedly and didn't want to make matters worse so he had me pick it up and suggested I go to someone that has done these O2 sensors before. He cleared the code and the light has not come on again. It never really ran that badly, just a little rougher. A Little help please from someone as knowledgeable as you all with O2 replacement and other such recomendations. Also any suggestions on a O2 replacement brand - Bosch, Walker, NTK or other. Definately a wide range of prices for these. I was told to stay away from Universal. Located in Nashua, NH
Thanks for your help.

If you soak the threads a couple of times and if need be use an O2 sensor socket, you should be able to remove it.
How many miles are on your truck?

Mike, It has 115,500 mi and I bought it with a 100,000 on it. I have noticed some special O2 sockets as you mentioned along with a special tap in case the Sensor strips out, and that worries me a bit. Have you heard of an O2 sensor being so stripped that it had to be drilled. I think this is what the mechanic was a little worried about. Any special type of lubricating oil to free it up. It definately is in one tough spot to get to. Looking at the O2 Sensor socket you mentioned online it does look especially made for these tight spots to get into so more leverage can be appled.
Not sure if any of the (4) O2 Sensors have been replaced. Guess I'll be buying an OBD2 Analyser as the light came back on after a 10 mi drive.
Any suggestions on brand of O2 Sensor.
Thanks again for your input
Eric

Eric,
Check on line at Rover Connection and Atlantic British as well as going to your local auto parts store, see who has what and at price. Do not get a generic O2 sensor that you have to rewire.
As for the penatrating oil, there are a few good one out one made by Lucas, one called ------- Blaster can't remember the first part of the name.
Soak then a coulpe of times and you should be fine.

I found it online it's called PB Blaster Penetrating Catalyst and seems to be sold at most local Autoparts stores. I'll also go get get the Sensor Socket adaptor since I'll being doing another O2 Sensor in the future I'm sure.
Thanks for your input.
