P0414 DTC simple replacement or Trojan Horse?
Got finished with one project now a new one.....
CEL is on and steady.
Engine runs nicely but occasionally runs a little rough.
DTC code of
P0414 - Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve A Circuit Shorted
Should I trust that the solenoid is bad and replace it? ($21) or is it more likely a Trojan Horse. RAVE isn't very clear on this. Sounds like it wants me to check voltage with a multi-meter.... Since it is a very accessible part I am tempted to just replace it.
Smoke test advisable? Local guy does it for $50.

Unfortunately this cropped up after I replaced my ignition wires. As stated earlier (int the Help post), I followed your advice and used RAVE to do this. Now I have this new error I have never encountered before. No Jet Engine wind up noise in the morning.
I would like to know it it is more then likely the solenoid and if there is a test to isolate this from the possibility of the SAI pump relay. I really have no reason to suspect this as there are no fuses blown and the only thing I remember "disturbing" during the wire replacement (removal of plenum and SAI crap) that now seems problematic is this solenoid valve (I think). I did get the grey connection fitted correctly!

I went out and checked it. They grey plug was on the vacuum solenoid correctly. I pulled it off and reconnected it but did not swap it with the purge valve. The SAI pump still doesn't come on like it used to in the morning.
Should I go ahead and switch anyway just to check?
Is there a check I should perform on the plug with the multi-meter for voltage?

Is the plug all the way on the temp sensor on top of the intake manifold (lower I/M). I think that may be where the temp. comes from to tell the pump to run. Just a thought, I'm not sure but, if you didn't have it connected I think you may have more codes than just that one. I could be way off, just thinking that the pump only runs at certain temperatures and only for so long, that sort of thing. Good Luck, I hope you figure this one out!

I actually haven't located the temp plug yet but on looking at the engine I visually don't see anything a miss. But.....
Now the P0306, P1300, P0414, P0301, and P0455 jumped up. I just last week replaced the ignition wires and the P1300, P0301, and P0306 went away (until this morning.
The P0455 is a new one. My guess there might be a faulty or lose gas cap.
This is disappointing.... not say looking more expensive.

I did check the temp plug. What a bear to get to!
My rig has been very well taken care of and there is no dirty or grime any where. As I suspected the plug was clean and free of any debris or corrosion. It was very snug and snapped back into place nicely. Which there was an easier way or an easier location.
Checked the gas cap and cleared all DTC's... no CEL for 5 miles then they cam back (in order) P0301, P1300, P0306 and P0414. The P0455 disappeared.
Really wondering what is going on.....

For one either the number one and number six is mixed up or the coil is bad.

it goes from the right cylinder 6 and on the left is cylinder 1.

you should have grey on the secondary air solenoid and black on the purge valve solenoid. the secondary air solenoid has two three vacuum lines that run from the valves to the solenoid and to the pump. the purge valve has a large hose that runs down the back side of the engine and connects to the intake manifold behind the throttle plate.
