Buy a cheap digital meter (like $10 at Harbor Freight). Fewer scales to interpret. Don't feel bad, plenty of engineering students can't read one worth a damn either.

I have a meter. I just need to take the time to learn how to use it. Maybe I can give it a try over the next couple of days. Looks like weather is gonna force cancellation of the Land Rover Club GTG

Seems my problem was most likely caused by the Lucas. I found a terrific indy Land Rover shop here and he recommended that I run the truck to just before completely empty and refill with 93 octane. I refilled my tank when it was half full, prior to meeting this tech, and I have driven out almost the entire tank. Problem appears to have gone. I'll fill up this morning and report back this evening.
