Is P0741 Ever a Phantom or Related Code?
Scanner says I have P0741, P1171 and P1174.
Just installed a new Bosch MAF and will be conducting a smoke test this afternoon to check for vacuum leaks. I also changed the trans filter + fluid and added 24oz of Lucas Trans Fix three months ago. Still P0741.
I'm trying to get the last few SES codes permanently cleared by fixing what is actually wrong with by Disco while steering away from throwing parts at it.
Does anyone know if P0741 (Torque Converter Performance or Stuck Off) is ever tripped as a result of another OBDII problem?

Thanks, I recall hearing something about that also. The battery is a one year old Interstate with 770 CCA and the battery cables are in great shape. When I replaced the negative cable last Fall I also cleaned the mounting point to the block so that should be good. Maybe time to remove the alternator and bring it to the local rebuild shop for analysis. Seems like it may be the original with 135K on it. Could be the problem. It was 4 degrees here last night, so no smoke test for diagnosing the 1171/1174 yet - maybe tomorrow.
Smoke test diagnosis of my other codes has revealed a serious vacuum leak which I will be fixing this weekend. How much does the automatic transmission rely on vacuum, and could this be contributing to or causing the P0741?
