Default P1562 - Flashing M&S - NOT low voltage/bad battery

So have an 03 with 160k (previously posted about several times) that has an intermittent P1562 code (low voltage after startup) that results in the flashing M&S lights

Is/Is Not

Is:

Occurs most commonly on 1st startup of the day - recently has occurred at lunch instead of morning (because it is 25 degrees?)

In the past it frequently occured when raining

Today it occurred on every startup.

Is Not:

Typically did not occur every day - probably 2 out of 10, less in the summer

Typically did not occur once it is warm (that changed recently).

Restart after running at RPM for a few minutes normally returns to normal (that stopped today)

Battery voltage is fine - truck always starts, battery relatively new. Delphi reports 13.5-14 volts after start up.

Affected by starting in neutral or park (no difference).

I am leaning toward a connection issue.

Wondering if any of the senior Rover techs have any suggestions (DiscoMike, RoverMasterTech?)

* Battery supply below
9V while engine
running
Maintains current gear in low range, limp
home mode in range. Shift pressure to
maximum, harsh gear shifts/engagement.
Is trans going into the limp mode or just getting S&M lights?

If battery voltage good I'd suspect voltage in EAT ECU is not the same as your batt voltage. ECU located under driver's seat. May want to remove connector, inspect, spray with contact cleaner and reseat. If meter available you could check for proper voltage (pin 26) and resistance to grounds (6 & 28) while connector removed.

FYI if you happen to have a ScanGuage or UltraGuage you can usually clear the S&M lights by just clearing pending code rather than doing an engine restart.

I believe the ECU is in the passenger footwell, behind kick panel (silver one, black one is SLAB).

TCU is under drivers seat.

Remove
1. Release fixings and remove battery cover.
2. Disconnect battery earth lead.
3. Remove 3 screws and trim clip securing lower
trim casing to LH front seat.
FYI The Deputy,

I try to take the time to know when providing information. Had to view the manual to get pin info and checked for location while there.

Chased too many geese growing up before learning how to use manuals to help prevent most chases.

Termiology issue...lol.

Missed the EAT in your statement.

In most applications...in the normal world...not necessarily LR.

ECU is normally the Electronic Control Unit or Engine Control Unit.

TCU is normally Transmissin Control Unit.

BCU is normally Body Controller Unit.

Anyhow, my bad. Continue on. (But, I'm still going to call it a TCU)

Brian.

Was just thinking about the engineering and terminologies used by LR. To them...tie rods are ball joints, you need to have a hand that can play Twister to close all four windows at once, etc, etc.

Maybe we would have been better off letting Germany take over England...then the Germans could have showed the expatriate Brits how to engineer a vehicle.

Heck, may have even helped them devolop a talent for cooking, too.

Rant over...lol.
