Question Parking brake to wheels ?

Hi.
Any ideas if the parking brake can be modified by applying the linkage/cable/action to wheels; instead of to the transmission drum ?
Would it be too complex to add the parking brake to rear wheels ? Is there any aftermarket kit or salvage from another vehicle that can be added to discs ?

You would need to swap the calipers to a combo unit I think. May be possible, but I'd be surprised if there was a unit that would bolt right on to the LR bracket. Why do you want to change?

stock location is prone to getting any oil or gear oil that leaks into it and either not functioning properly or at all. That's one reason I'd consider changing if there was a simple solution.

An advantage of the drum location is that if you use the CDL, you have four wheel parking brakes.
I've never seen any oil or other residue inside the brake drum on either of my D2s.

Thanks.
Not for oily reasons. My Disco II is rear wheel drive only for like 10 years/50K miles now, ( front shafts removed, empty front pumpkin, locked diff. ) , never needed 4WD, never play in mud, snow, off-road and always wanted to discard the extra moving parts/weight transfer case, so am revisiting options to hook up the transmission to the rear differential directly, if swapping with a BMW tailed ZF-4HP24 or tail added is needed am fine with it. The parking brake has been the only deterrent to do it.

I've owned a TON of other 4x4's and I'm up to owning 22 LR's so far. I have always found the E-brake setup on a LR superior to all the other 4x4's I've owned. It completely locks the drive train so basically 4 wheels vs 2. Not a single one ever had a leaky rear TC output seal that leaked into the E-brake Drum or caused an issue. I've only had 1 seized cable cause an issue on any of my D2's.

Ditto, strongest parking brake I have ever seen. However you could always install WIldwood rear calipers.

I have seen a Disc Brake conversion on a LR vs the drum, but no clue on the config/price.

I’m a fan of the setup, but on a ice coated driveway it’s worthless as nothing stops wheels acting separately. A perfect solution would be lockers engaged when parked.

I know because my Disco II slid down the driveway on its own, with each wheel moving in opposite directions. I hate the setup on the LR3, but at least it actually locks each rear wheel. Go ahead and lift you vehicle and see how worthless the parking brake is.
