Great! I can come up with that and have one ready for Saturday when I plan on stuffing Cosmoline, sawdust, chicken feathers and a genuine LR crankshaft seal to stop my constant oil leak. I will also take a look and see if the dampener is separating. I didn't know it could actually come apart, like in your picture. I wonder if a 3/4" piece of walnut on the ground would probably withstand 240 ft lbs of torque. I remember finding the right plastic jar diameter to press in that seal, which took me longer than the entire job. The stuff we have to come up with work on this Rovers

I used a paint can to press my rear seal once. You can find something. I have the tools to out seals in, but in practice I sometimes use unapproved methods and can wield a mallet and paint can or mason jar with the dexterity of Michelangelo's head chiseler.
I didn't know that a damper would do that either, but I remembered seeing an add for reconditioned ones with NEW dampers and that one looked cracked. It was OLD. So I grabbed a slightly younger one from the garage. That tiny bulge in the picture was inducing close to 1/4 inch of wobble. No telling what that did to my oil pump and bearings.

So that's an issue. Need a new timing cover. Those grooves are DEEP. The ding I just caused but it doesn't matter. That's definitely an oil pressure problem right there.
Abran suggested that my cam bearings being worn or walked could cause other issues. I'll check that next.
Also, there are TWO pressure relief pistons in the front cover on opposite sides. Not ONE but TWO. One came out easily and had already been checked. I had to beat the other one out with a long probe and a mallet. It was stuck, and I couldn't tell what position it was stuck in but it sure as heck wasn't at the end of the tube. I don't know how the second one escaped me attention before. But there are two. TWO!
I'd say I've discovered the problem. Or the beginning of the problem.
I'm not using my other front cover. I don't trust them.
Ugh. Off to order parts.

The more expensive of the two harbor freight seal pullers works good for this. The orange handled one.

Thanks for the advise on the seal puller. I've gotten away with the large handled pick set to remove the seal, but I may pickup the orange handled one if its too much of a pain. Last time I removed the front cover so it was not big deal.
