I seem to be having the exact same problem with my LR4. I have cleared the sunroof drains which appears to have solved much of the problem. No more water around firewall area. however still have water between driver seat and driver side passenger seat.

Was the TSB regarding the pillar the solution to your problem?
Hi John,
not the original poster, but used this thread and everyone’s help to track leaks on my D2. The tsb helped my truck.
I don’t know if that tsb will be helpful for your LR4. It pertained to a specific corner of the gutter over the a pillar. I’m not super familiar with the LR4, but don’t think it has the same gutter as the discos.
leaks are the most frustrating. Start inspecting any obvious seals that you can. My D2 had a cracked air plenum (plastic piece at the base of the windshield) and it dripped into the heater air intake and into the footwell. So it isn’t always easy.
hooe that helps.

Thanks for the update. A visual inspection of the cowl area seemed fine, but I think you're right. I will need to get in for a closer look and start sealing up any obvious cracks.

@John Minchuk Hi partly, the TSB solved teh driver side leak perfectly, but I still have a naggy little leak on the passenger side. That one appears to be a badly installed windshield, I used some RTV on the seal under the A pillar and that has 95% of the problem sorted.

Yours sounds like a air cabin air intake issue to me

I found a leak on my drivers side that seems to come from between the dash and the a-pillar. Rusty dash frame and bolts. Could be the a frame rusted out where the sunroof tube dumps into it or windshield....

Hi all, following up on this thread with my experience. This leak happened during some very heave spring rains. The sunroof gutter were definitely clogged. At the
at time I was able to see the water dripping down the A pillar.

Some other things I noticed that may help others. This is for my 2013 LR4, which seems quite similar to the LR3.
  • I ordered a new cowl and created a plate with a vent to hang over the fresh air intake box under the cowl. There are pics on this site regarding that.
  • The front drains for the sunroof exit behind the vents on the front fender panels. I blew those out from there. There are also some foam pads behind these vents designed to redirect water, but really just seem to act like a sponge. They we also installed backwards in my case. I discarded these and verified water still exited in a reasonable way.
  • The fender well below the fender vents was filled with mud and debris. I cleaned this out.
  • I was only able to clear the rear sunroof drains by removing the inner trim near the third row seating. To remove this panel you need to unbolt the second row seat belts. I blew this out with an air hose.
  • I pulled back the outer A-Pillars and could see I do have the hole that should be patched according to the technical service bulletin. I have not replaced this yet, but it does not appear to be a source of leaks at this time.
  • The carpet itself took WEEKS to dry out. The factory carpet seems to be made of some incredible space age material designed to hold water yet never smell like mold. I was slammed at work and didn't have time to pull the front seats and dry this out manually. Eventually it dried up and the water never returned. I have seen one or two posts that seem to confirm the carpet does in fact take a looooooong time to dry out. This may confuse some as my initial reaction was to think the leak was not solved.
  • There is quite a bit of wiring that runs alongside the rocker panels. This wiring was completely submerged in water when I first discovered the problem. I carefully drilled two small holes to act as a drain in the event this happens again. This move is not for everybody, but I can't think of a worse situation that delicate wiring under two inches of water.
Again, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but wanted to follow up.
