Well if it's being sold by a stand up guy and head gaskets are being done now, then I'd say 4000-4500 is a fair price. I'll tell you, they will never in a million years get their rated gas mileage. You'll get 11-13. And you do need to run premium. I've tried running with both regular and mid grade and it idles rough and is always low on power on both. Maintain it to a tee and she will still break slightly more than a vehicle of comparable age, but I've never been stranded in mine when something broke in the past two years of daily driver experience. It's always something that I can still get home and fix it there. It's easy to work on and you can usually get parts relatively cheap from Lucky 8 (you'll speak to either Eric or Justin, for new and aftermarket parts), Abran (used), and Paul Grant (also used). All four of them are friendly stand up guys that will give you the best deal they can.

She's not for the faint of heart, but judging by your vehicular history and your mechanical ability you'll learn to love her quickly.

Oh, and a tip. She's slow. 180ish horsepower at the wheels stock. (Mine was actually like 156 hp)Don't go test drive a new 6 speed 2015 Dodge Challenger Hemi with the shaker hood and then hop right back in the Disco. I did that yesterday.

And if 180ish isn't enough for you, do some performance upgrades. It wasn't for me. While mine was open for head gaskets I also did a port and polish on the intake and lower exhaust manifold and heads, a Kent H180 cam, and Rhoads lifters. I already had a cold air intake, high flow cats, and Borla muffler. I put down about 240 at the wheels and for me it makes it just quick enough to be a little fun. Might be something oil want to look into if you think 0-60 in 14.6 is too slow.

All of that said, they're awesome vehicles and I'd never in a million years trade mine unless I absolutely had to.

Lol I drove dumpster trucks for 9 years. I have a wife and 2 kids I am much happier these days in 4 lo that at 140+ down some interstate. I am a big fan of anything diesel. So if and when the time would come I would drop a TD in there. I have a code reader that I bought for my ford. It liked to blow codes after I removed the emissions equipment and chipped it out. That btw was the nastiest plow truck I ever owned. The guys that would do the side walks on the lots I was doing always stopped to watch and I roared thru the snow. But it was a an unreliable money pit that blew up and 116k 6 months after I paid the the truck off.
