Default Poking around looking for the CDL nipple, found 2 unplugged wires

My 2002 disco was manufactured in on May 11, '01, so I was hoping to find the CDL nipple... but unfortunately it's not there. It really wants to... with that circular recessed area... but no. While looking, I found these 2 unplugged connectors, what are they and why would they be disconnected?

The black connectors to the left.

Those would go onto the CDL Engage/Disengage switch. On my 02 Kalahari they were disconnected just hanging there like yours. I installed the 04 Linkage, and connected those wires and I was all set.

I do not know the exact day of the month mine was built, but it was in May of 2001. Mine has the nipple, and the connectors were already attached when I hillbilly engineered my transfer case linkage. The dash light illuminates correctly when I lock-in the transfer case.

Jealous. I was really expecting to find that nipple. I'd be curious to know the date yours was manufactured?

Installing the switch into the dash was probably my limit as far as projects go. Not interested enough to rebuild or replace the TC...

How did you find out the exact day yours was built? I just know the door sticker reads "Date: 05/01."

Is there any chance a previous owner replaced your transfer case with one that had no lock or plugs for the connectors?

I just re-read your original post. You call yours an '02. I always understood the nipple was phased out mid 2001. I have read of June 2001 builds without it. Was yours built in May 2002?

My driver door reads 5/11/01. Don't have a picture handy. Model year is 2002. It's very well possible the TC has been replaced.. I have no idea. From what I gather in the internet, "after mid-may 2001", they stopped having the nipple.

I've seen some early 02's have it, and I've seen some 02's not have it.

My 02 is 10/01 build date and it has it. It's a Kalahari though so I've heard mixed things about why it had the nipple on the transfer case. One was it's a Land Rover Special Vehicle, and that it was not assembled on the same assembly line with the other D2's it went thru the Land Rover Special Vehicles assembly line and that it had different grade parts on it as well. I have no idea if that's true or not, but I will admit it's cruising around with 225K on it and it drives and works like a new car.

It could have had it and the original transfer case was replaced later on say 02/03 with a unit that didn't have the nipple. If you aren't going to wheel the rubicon trail you'll be fine. If you need it then just swap out the TC and go from there.
