Default Poor Mans 8$ CAI... Another Crappy How To

I dont do How To's

I do half **** jobs and take half **** pictures with a camera phone.

However this does seem to work. And kinda works as a Ram Air Intake, though I will probably cut it back later to make it just a Cold Air Intake. NONE OF THIS IS VISIBLE FROM THE OUTSIDE, and even my ram air intake is practicly invisible since my highlift is mounted to the bumper and the pipe is straped to the front tow hook.

This was just an experiment. After looking at my intake air temperature on my scan gauge I was surprised the temperature would be 140 +/- 20* sometimes. And it wouldn't change wether driving or sitting. This reduced the temperatures to 100-115* This is while its probably 95* outside.

*Before any geniuses speak up about sucking in water, this is just for driving on road and can be EASILY detached when offroading.*

Materials Needed.

-3" Semi Ridid Aluminum Duct 7$ at my lowes.
http://www.lowes.com/pd_28878-85334-...5&Ntt=flex%203

-Demel to cut, or saws all with metal blade.

-Optional 3" hose clamp. The hose fits perfectly snug without the ring.

Step one: Remove headlight, blinker and headlight finisher. Also remove Trumpet horn looking thing from front of air box.

Step two: use your brain. I don't have any guides OR pictures because as everything I do its pretty obvious. Looking down in to the head light well, facing the headlight. To the left you will see a small square cut out. It just needs to be opened. I cut the square a few inches to left and just bent the metal out. I then following my new size square, cut into the wall towards the front of the vehicle where the headlight attaches. You will know when the hole is big enough. The pipe will fit.. And DONT HIT ANY WIRES OR THE TRANSMISSION COOLANT LINE.

Step three put the 3" duct on.

DONE...

It took me 15 mins to plan out the thing and finish it. Perfect it if you wish. Use PVC.. I might later one.. This was just an experiment.
AND IT WORKS

For anyone who thinks this is stupid, Cool. Sorry I just love messing with and improving things. I cant stop.
SORRY FOR THE BAD TUTORIAL AND BAD PICTURES. IT WAS JUST AN EXPERIMENT!

Default Nice idea...

Nice idea Cam.... So this would be a poor mans snorkel ? I am not up on intake air temp specifics but would this lower engine temp?

At least you think outside of the box....

So your inlet is now under the vehicle? That is dryer vent stuff I think.

If it helps you out, cool.

I'm far from knowledgeable on this but don't you want hot air at combustion?

The theory is that you want colder air at the intake, not hot air from the engine bay. Cold air expands more than hot air in the combustion chamber - that's what all the rice burners say anyway.
