Just an FYI here, Rovers are Four Wheel Drive, Not all wheel drive.
Like everyone has said, look at it, sometimes ads make a terrible vehicle sound great. I think its also always a good idea to have a mechanic look over it if you dont know exactly what to look for.

If the head gaskets haven't been done, budget for that as well. If not now, then soon, like in the next 20k miles...
And check the condition of the rotors, that's a spendy replacement. I don't recall the wear limit, but if someone can supply that, the quick check is to carry an open-end wrench of the next size up. If it slides on the rotor, it's time for a new one.
I paid $5k for a 2002 with 107k miles, with 3k miles on a new set of pads and rotors, and less than 1k on a cylinder head job. Still had to bring it current on the 60 service, and do the front driveshaft, but the really expensive stuff was done.
