Called DAP and they said a 3.9 won't fit because the crankcase sticks out further in a disco 1, for the serpentine belt ..

he did say a 3.9 or 4.2 from 95 RR would work ... 4.2 is a direct drop in, computer and everything ....

Well what kind of motor do you have again? 4.0 or 4.2 reason i ask is because these blocks were notorious for dropping sleeves 4 and 6 consumning coolant if and when they did the headgaskets they should have looked at the pistons to see if they were washed.

Ok well it has been decided...

I found a local company who has a 3.9 in PERFECT condition for $500 with warranty...... has 90k miles

They will take my motor for $100 trade in.....

I already paid them for the motor and am picking it up tomorrow.

Thank you everybody !!!!!

Expect another thread when I start to do a motor swap, haha

If you need cheap motors or parts let me know, i guarantee can get the cheapest parts around ...

That was going to be my next question, which part of the country you're in? But after checking your bio, it states you're in Sheridan Oregon.

In my opinion you made the right choice in getting another motor. But I am curious like others are, could it have been the t-stat.Try pulling the t-stat just to see what happens

Definitly am going to, soon as I get off work in about 3 hrs... i'm gonna pull the t-stat and run it and see if it still overheats (which would be the original problem and cracked the liner in the first place)

I think the front cover is different. The oil pump is housed there, and with that many miles, you may have problems mating it back, but for $300 guaranteed.....

Go hot rod it again since you have the t-stat out. See if you're still getting the erratic temp readings.

While im here at work and can watch the car, i took off the upper radiator hose and started filling it with water (with resevoir lid off)

it took almost a full gallon until water started coming out the top of the res, and started pushing out the paper i had covering the radiator where i unhooked the hose.

I capped it all off, hooked up hose, and now i'm letting it idle and seeing what happens.
