Post Overhaul... Start-up Issue!
I just completed an overhaul on my 03. Oil Pump, timing chain and water pump.
Everything went smooth, no surprises and was straight forward. Oil pump was packed with Vaseline. Added fluids and she started up immediately, but the oil light will not go out and she sounds rough. I checked the oil dipstick and it read a half quart low so I added oil- oil seems to have moved, but after staring it again the light is still on and I caught the faint sound of metal on metal so I stopped.
No codes
Considering removing the oil filter and pumping warm oil into the tube with a drill pump and hose. Warm to melt the Vaseline.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Ok Guys... Here's the deal!
I just replaced the oil pump on my 03 and I'm not getting any oil pressure.
Here's where I've been:
1) Replaced the oil pump gears exactly as the RAVE manual says.
2) Packed it with Vaseline.
3) Installed everything, added fluids and tested it.
4) (Pulled the fuel pump fuses) Cranked and cranked but the oil pressure light remained illuminated.
5) (Reinstalled the fuel pump fuses) Did a quick start (45 seconds) to see if a few more rpms would help- nothing.
6) Pulled the filter and discovered some Vaseline in the filter.
7) After talking with Disco Mike, I got concerned about possibly having too much Vaseline in the pump or lines and pulled everything apart to see if anything was clogged.
8) The pump was clean with no Vaseline at all (but had no signs of oil either).
9) Checked the pick-up tube... it was clean and the o-ring was seated properly.
10) Reinstalled everything exactly per RAVE.
11) Added fluids and checked it again- still no oil pressure.
12) I took the filter off and put a clean container under the oil filter install location to check for oil movement into the filter. Cranked the engine for twenty seconds and the container was dry as a bone. No oil movement equals no possibility for oil pressure.
According to the rave manual, it says to mark the orientation of the gears and reinstall the gears the same way. My existing gears were oriented in the 12 O' clock position, so I reinstalled the new ones at 12. After beating my head against the RAVE manual for an hour (while slightly medicated with beer), I noticed the RAVE illustrations depict the gears oriented at about the 2 O' Clock position.
First ?) Are the gears supposed to be at 2 O' clock like the illustration or reinstalled oriented as they were removed from the pump???
Second ?) If the inner gear slips onto a fixed crank shaft and the front cover mates into fixed the dowels, does it even matter what the orientation is? It seem as though the dowels and crankshaft will realign the components to a predetermined location.
If anyone can give me a bit of input here I'd really appreciate it.
