so first off do i use atf in my 96 disco and how should i flush it? run it and lossen the bleed bolt untill fluid seeps out? i dont know but i need help.

 

Yes use Dexron III. Full synthetic.
This is what I did, removed the return line from the resavoir and stuck it into a empty washer fluid bottle, had my wife start the trk and I kept adding new fluid until it came out clean.
Turn off the trk, replace the hose and then fill the resavoir.
It might take several quarts.

EDIT-DI's take ATF and DII's take power steering fluid.
