Default Power steering

How often should the power steering system on a Discovery II be flushed? My 2003 has 44k miles on it. Today when I had it in for the ABS issue the dealer recommended a flush of this system. I have put a lot of miles on a lot of cars in almost three decades of driving and have never had to flush a ps system ... ever ... on many cars, with substantially greater mileage and age. He explained that LR ps systems "tend to run dirtier" than other systems and need to have the fluid changed and flushed regularly.

What is the general opinion / experience out there? Does this in fact need to be done, and how often?

Thanks,

Bob

Default RE: Power steering

I've always played it by how it looks, similar to brake fluid. If it's not clear, time to flush it out. A flush is cheaper than replacing the PS pump or even the rack. Just my $.02
