Hello, ive read a bazilluion posts on the power steering issues on the d2,

As I was driving up from California to Portland. and getting higher in altitude towards the top of the pass my power steering started to groan and whine. and it was leaking like a sith. I couldn't really tell where from, but I added fluid with every fil up and got to Portland. after removing and replacing the pump. I got it all back together with a new hose from the resivoir to the pump. and new hose clamps. I did the flush and fill but when I started it wham. ll fluids fell out rapidly. after doing this a few times and wallet is getting thinner. I finnaly get a clear view of the leak. it is coming from the power box line on the left side . to the steel line going from the box to the resivour. ive tried replacing the orings like four times and still leaking from there/

is this time for both a new box and line and how hard is this to do.

any help from you all would be great. my cross country trip has been on hold now since I moved here in sept. am on limited funds so need to do this right.

Its been cold here lately and my power steering line leaked real bad. Everything in front got soaked with fluid and my driveway is a mess. I tried this priduct until it gets warmer to replace the line. Amazingly, it worked. Sixpack just replaced his steering box and he ‘ll chime in.

So it's leaking where the metal line bolts into the top of the box?
I know you said you replaced the o-ring several times, but are you sure it's the correct o-ring?
The slight difference in size between a standard and metric, or random universal kit can make all the difference.
If the hard line wasn't leaking before, there is no way it or the surface on the box should be damaged.
If the steering is otherwise functioning ok, then the box is fine.

 

+1 on using the right o-rings. For the two high pressure lines going into the top of the box, there are 4 o-rings, 2 for each line. Two are green, and two are brown IIRC. Different part numbers for all 4 o-rings. Also, each one is a different thickness, and needs to go in the right spot. I tried some aftermarket o-rings once, they were black, and didn't even fit in properly

I wouldn't use the stop leak as you know where the leak is, and stop leak can cause more problems than it fixes. If it was the output on the bottom where the drop arm is, was leaking, then yeah you can try stop leak then because at that point if you want to fix the leak you either have to rebuild/reseal the box, or get a new one. And I've heard that resealing the box doesn't always work because its usually part of the metal on the box that wore away, so new seals wouldn't help. My box was leaking bad on the output, so I picked up a new one from across the pond for about $550, brand was Adwest
