Question Power Steering Like Noise

I have a 2004 D2
Info:
100K miles.
New front o2 sensors.
New Spark plugs.
Changed Plenum Gasket.
Changed crank sensor.
I do not have the history on this car.

I'm hearing a whining noise that sounds like a power steering pump low on fluid. The noise changes with RPM. The noise does not change when I move the steering wheel around, and that makes me think it's not the power steering pump. I read on other forums that this can be the ACE system. However, I only have one cap on the power steering reservoir. So I do not have the ACE system. So what else on this engine, makes that type of noise? Not sure if its related, but I have a light grinding noise. I'm pretty sure the grinding noise is from the A/C compressor.

Take off serpantine belt and spin each item, feel for roughness. You can crank truck and run for a short time and see if noise is gone, so that narrows it to belt driven. MAy be just an idler pulley. Draw belt route before you take it off.

As Buzz mentioned, remove the belt and spin all the pulleys.
Have you ever flushed the p/s fluid?
By the way, you mentioned doing plugs, did you do the wires also, at your mileage the grey factory wires are shot.

Hey Mike,
Saw you mention flushing the p/s. I have been looking around trying to find out how to do this in the RAVE but can't find anything. Is it a simple pull the plug, refit, and refill?

I would also like to service my ACE at the same time... how is this done?

Thanks

Hi Mike
I didn't change the ignition wires because they are blue and dont seem that old.
I have not flushed the PS and don't know that its ever been done. I was actually fixing to flush the radiator this weekend and maybe the brakes lines. I guess I can add the PS to the list. I would imagine you just empty the PS and refill James. I was inspecting everything last night and found some missing screws. The A/C compressor is missing a mounting screw. There is also a missing screw near the tensioner assembly. And I'm missing the cover that goes over the A/C pulley.

By the way, I was reading the owners manual and it states that it is recommended to change all hydraulic hoses at 90K. Are people actually doing this?

If either of you need help with flushing the p/s as well as the ACE, PM me with your number and I'll call and walk you thru what to do.
Also get those bolts replaced before you have a mounting failure.

I will PM, but
I found what is making the grinding noise. Its the jockey pulley near the power steering. Guess the bearing on it is done.
I also notice that if I spin the P/S clockwise I hear something like a click. If I spin it counter-clockwise its fine.
