Power Steering Pump

Power Steering Pump
Hi...I have an 03 Discovery (75k) and it has been leaking power steering fluid. It was making a horrible noise when I turned the wheel and progressively getting worse and harder to steer. I added P/S Fluid because it was low, but in just a couple of days it was low again. I got it to the shop yesterday and was told I have a leak in my P/S Pump.
Can someone tell me what I should expect to pay? I don't know much about cars, nor do I know the mechanic I took it to. I don't want to be taken advantage of.
Thanks in advance.

Before authorizing I would either want them to show you exactly where it is leaking and or get a second option. The power steering hoses are also known, and more prone to leaking.
As for cost, a good used pump will run you in the mid $250 range at, http://www.roverlandparts.com/powersteeringpumps.aspx
a new one from Rover Connection will run you $50 plus along with labor. With that in mind, do your homework.
If and when youy get an estimate, get back to use with the labor and parts.

This one isn't a cheap repair. A new pump is about $400 and a used pump is still about $300:

I'm guessing they'll want to replace your P/S lines as well which would be $170 new.
The repair itself shouldn't be bad, but it will take at least a few hours of shop time to fix. Mike or Spike can maybe troubleshoot it further.
