Power steering pump

Power steering pump
OK so for the last couple days my disco started making a real loud metallic squealing. I took it to a shop and they said "well there is some play in your water pump its that." So I then went to shucks and got a new water pump for $200.00. I just spent the last couple hours replacing the old one and I turned it over and there it is, the squealing. I am looking at all the pulleys and I notice the power steering pulley looks to be sticking out about the width of one of the teeth farther then the rest. It doesn't wiggle or anything so I am not sure if that's it or not. I notice that is looks to be inline with the crank pulley but not the A/C pulley. I will post a picture soon as I can get one. Any help would be appreciated.

Well that was what I thought, but when I changed the water pump I wiggled everything and turned everything and not one of them squeaked or anything. I just changed the belt to, could I have just got a bad belt from the dealer, does that happen?

I use a mechanic's stethoscope, but any long item (l-o-n-g screwdriver, 2ft. peice of hose, etc.
with the noise in progress, put the nice end of the device to (not in) your ear, the other end to the suspect.
this will amplify & narrow down the noise
YOU UNDERSTAND IF IT HITS A MOVING PART, IT MAY BEAT YOU TO DEATH, that's why I use a stethoscope.
Oh, & I'd move the belt over that one tooth as the backside is probably riding on the edge of the sheave
luck, greg

Ok well it looks like the power steering pump is off set from the other pulleys. We put dish soap on it and the noise goes away, tell you give it gas. When you have the belt off the power steering is not spinning freely. Is the power steering not suppose to spin freely when the belt is off and you turn it by hand?
