So, I gotta replace my power steering pump and hoses. My question is, can I drive the truck for a couple days with no power steering? Will it hurt anything? Thanks for any input...

 

I drove mine for months without it, years ago. If you are replacing the pump and hoses I think you will be fine. I don't recommend it if you are rebuilding the pump as you will do additional damage and will have whining issues for years to come. It's kind of hard to drive as well and can make your arms sore after awhile.

 

Take the pump off.
take the back of the pump off.
Use some Indian head gasket shellac on both sides of the gasket. Let dry.
Put the back on.
Do not over torque the bolts. Tighten them just enough to let the pump slightly drag.

Pump will never leak out the back again.

People might hate me for saying this but if it’s a leaky power steering I would try the Blue Devil Stop Leak. It can stop big leaks permanently or really slow them down to get you by while you repair. I won’t ever promote another type of stop leak product but I have tried this on two vehicles and both times it fixed the leak 100%. It takes a little bit of driving to do its thing but as skeptical as I was it did it’s thing. I have a International Scout 2 that I could’nt find a pump for and I was told to try this out. I never used a stop leak product before my scout’s power steering is still working perfect 2 years later.

 

+1 for the Blue Devil, I used that stuff to keep a lil' crapped out Samurai on the road for years lol!!

 

If it swells the seals enough to slow or stop the leak, why not, it's only a power steering pump.
Nothing you can really damage, and you can still repair or replace the pump just the same.
Would I put stop leak in an engine, or radiator? Nah, I'll pass on gumming those up, but other things, reseal products can really help out.
I'm rebuilding my engine now, and my transfer case has a nice leak(empty by now). So, before I test drive the truck, I'll put a bottle of ATF reseal in the TC, and fill the rest with fluid.
That should slow the leak until I'm happy with the engine, then I'll pull the TC and fix it right with new seals I already have.

 

I had a leaky pump a while back. Ended up just being a bad o ring on the hose.
