Default Power steering question

I have a 1998 D1 and was doing a power steering flush. Does the power steering fluid circulate through the ps pump when you remove the wire/plastic filter from the reservoir? I pulled it out to gain better access to use a hand pump to pull the fluid out but the fluid did not appear to replenish as fast compared to when the filter was in the reservoir?

Not sure what you are asking, but the screen is just a filter. It takes a bit to get through it. ie- if you fill while it is out, it fills quickly. If you fill with it in, it takes a second for the level to even out and you will have to add again.

That explains it. I put maxlife atf in it with no lucas since some say lucas can swell the seals too much. Don't want to cause more of a problem than what I have (small leak and slight steering vibration/noise coming through steering wheel when I turn to the right when vehicle is stopped)
