Default Power steering resevoir/return line

So I've got a pretty nasty leak on the hose coming from my power steering fluid tank (the non pressurised one with silver squeeze clamps). I was thinking of replacing the hose myself and was wondering if I could get by without ordering the exact same hose. A friened informed me that I should be able to just buy some similar black hosing with the same I.D/O.D and secure it with regular silver hose clamps seeing that it's not a pressurised line....anyone swap one of these out before? I'm sure it could get a little messy with the remaining fluid in the hose...any info would help

Yes you can use a none Rover hose with 2 new clamps. Be ready to flush the system using 3 quarts of power steering fluid, a bottle of Lucas power steering additive and some sort of a hand pump.
Shout if you have any questions.

how would i go about flushing the whole power steering system? I was under the impression i could just swap out the hose and fill the resevoir back to it's full level.

If the hose isn't rotted, might just try new clamps first. Those squeeze clamps are junk.

I just empty the reservoir and fill with new fluid 3 times while driving in between. Mike have a better way.

I just fill the bottle, start the engine, turning the steering wheel both ways all the way to the stops, turne the engine off, remove the old fluid and do it 2 more times, using the Lucas the last time as part of the refill.
