As of this morning my power steering system has developed a small fluid leak and every now and then you can hear that heritage old power steering buzzing sound, but its not very loud yet. I examined the system as best I could, even went underneath the truck and washed the bottom of the oil pan and the power steering hoses and PS gearbox so I could better identify where the fluid leak is coming from. So far I have ruled out the PS reservoir and the reservoir to gearbox hose. I have also ruled out the gearbox itself (thank god). I say this because they are dry and there is no indication of a fluid leak in those areas. The hose that goes from the reservoir to the pump may be the culprit because it is moist and there is a couple small droplets of clear fluid buildup right where the hose attaches to the pump. After washing everything underneath the truck I took the Disco for a test ride around town, I took a couple sharp turns intentionally to encourage more fluid to leak out so I could spot it. Got back home and still cannot confirm the exact location of the leak. I'm leaning toward either the above mentioned hose or the power steering pump. The puddle of fluid I found on the ground this morning was probably about 1 tablespoon or 2 worth of fluid and so far my fluid level is down to the "min" line.

Here are my questions:

1.) How do I rule out the power steering pump as the source of the problem?

2.) Will the PS system make buzzing sounds if there is a leak in one of the hoses, be it no where else?

3.) Does a buzzing power steering system mean that the pump is bad?

4.) Upon changing out the reservoir to pump hose, does the PS system need to be bled? If so how do I do it with primitive tools?
