Default Power Window auto-down function

So this morning my daughter rolled down the driver's side window and then it wouldn't come back up which would indicate a stripped gear or bad regulator. After pulling the door panel off and playing around with it, it appears to still function. I can make it go up and down. The problem is that the auto-down feature doesn't know when to stop. It just keeps going until it gets stuck. Is there a way to just disable the auto feature on the front 2 windows?

I just had this about 3 weeks ago. I cleaned my BCU connectors and that solved the problem. Of course I first had to remove the window regulator from the door as it had gone down past the end of the gear. This may or may not be your issue.

Thanks for this thread. My passenger front is doing very similar stuff and I’m lucky enough that it just stays up. The regulator doesn’t look very expensive, so I’ll be doing at least that and possibly the motor just to be safe.

I wish there was a way to convert all 4 windows to auto-down and auto-up.

What I observed is the regulator went down to the last gear tooth and got stuck there. Solved in a not pretty way; by putting a ~1 litre capped soda plastic bottle at the bottom of the door guts. It works as a soft stop, never reaches the last regulator gear tooth where it binds and it has been there 4 years with no problems.

That sounds like a good idea. Mine is working fine now but it surely can happen again. Next time the door card is off.
