Default Driver’s window opens too far

My drivers (left side) window now opens too far and the gear rack goes beyond the gear on the motor. What tells the motor to stop before it gets there? I thought it must hit a mechanical stop but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Is the motor only supposed to turn so many revolutions? Does the BCU tell it to stop?
If it’s BCU related, the day before the window issue (Saturday) my odometer lost somewhere around 60,000km. Is this related?

Same thing happened to my front driver window last year:
https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...-bottom-98746/

The window regulator assembly was worn. The motor gears were also worn.... and it kept popping off the window regulator gears. I tried to disassemble the original assembly and put it back together. Unfortunately, it failed again... and this time, it failed on the second day of a four day run in the bush.

I ended up getting a new regulator and motor. I also stuck an empty plastic liter bottle at the bottom as a safety measure.

I removed my BCU, cleaned it inside and out with electro-contact cleaner and now everything seems to work properly. My window goes up and down, stopping before it goes off the end of the gear, and my odometer reads correctly again.

Thanks for that acg. It failed yesterday on my way home from a couple of days at a local mountain lake. Tomorrow I’m planning to go to a much more remote lake for a few more days so the timing for me was much better as I had a few hours in between.

You're welcome Harv! Hope the lake run goes well. The skies have cleared up here in the Fraser Valley from the wildfires. Hope the same for you too in Kelowna.

It’s beautiful now. On my way to Wells Grey, Murtle Lake!
