pressure in the coolent system +over heating
One member did a similar set up with a plastic hose that could be attached to bleed valve - less messy, and you can see the bubbles working their way out.

Disco Mike or Savannah Buzz:I have done a lot of research on radiators and 180 degree thermostats for my 2000 LR disco ll an still cannot find the Scottish made radiator that you speak of for me to obtain..I have found several others however, the Aussie HD desert radiator,Dolphin Radiator (Arab made) ,Nissen, proline an many more an the same thing on the Thermostats as well (most of which are rover OEM ) ,The company you recommended British Parts Utah just have factory OEM parts an the link to the thermostat that Savannah Buzz graciously provided for me is factory OEM as well..if either of you could possibly give me the part numbers and brand name as it reads on yours,it would be greatly appreciated as it seems you both have had bad trial runs on the others and I want to get the right stuff this time and fix it once an for all cause its nickel an dime'n me to death lol..not to mention the wife is on me to fix an is gettin quite comfy drivin my vintage toys
Thermostat is only oem, the aftermarkets from MotoRad have complaints about operating temperature. It is PEL 500110. Won't be at US dealers, since it was designated for the diesels, which seldom grace our shores. Rovers North and others that sell real Rover parts have them. THERMOSTAT ASSY DII & FREELANDER 180 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT, PEL500110, RNQ028 - Rovers North - Classic Land Rover Parts
The price is about $60. The guy who originally started all this got his from Britain, and paid about $125.
The Nissens radiator is fine. The rows in these radiators are so skinny to pack maximum cooling into minimum space. Just makes them easier to clog up, as the calcium and sludge build up has less cross-sectional area to fill up. All the radiators will be of very similar design. As for price point, you'ld have to wonder if the $135 land-o-panda is made with any kind of quality control. But any new radiator is better than a clogged up one.
Once installed, flush and change coolant 2 years or 30,000 miles, just like it says in the D2 owner's manual. Please, no Dexcool. Careful on DIY assembly, the mounting boss for the top screw is skinny plastic, easily overwhelmed by moderate force. The side tanks are plastic.
SWMBO seldom notices the time and treasure it takes to allow her to parade down the boulevard to that pedicure appointment.

I have the PEL500110 already,it is the stock cream colored one that came with it (190degree) and the one I had just replaced recently...Do you mean the PEZl500110G model?? There is the cream colored one,the grey one,an the black one all carrying the same part number but with different letter designation at the end,so which one do I get exactly??So do you know the name brand of the Scottish made radiator or know where I can find it?? Because British Parts Utah only carry the "Dolphin" radiator for the 2000 disco ll which is Arab made..Everyone keeps recommending the Scottish made radiator, but no one can tell me where to find one, what the brand name is so I can look up a link or website or if it exists only in Scotland at some private company or what lol..I wanna fix this right the 1st time an not have any more problems with it cause these parts prices are killin me..
The "G" suffix is added by the reseller, it stands for "genuine". There is no number with suffix in the microcat.
As for colors, that would depend on brand. You want the 180F soft spring one. AFAIK the PEL500110 is the correct number, don't know if the cloners have printed their boxes with that number as well.
There is a black tossed around as an alternate with a hard spring, same 82C temp. The softspring is the PEL500110 gray. Makes a difference at warm up. And what color they are still made in could vary. The spring allows the disk with holes in it to descend at idle, more heat headed toward heater core. When main stat opens up, it shoves the soft spring bypass closed, and water flows from the bottom of the radiator to the water pump.
If sources of supply are running low and substituting things that may mean that more owners have decided to go this path to avoid the heat wave.

Put in the Nissans if you can find it.
I have been having great luck with it and the 180 degree ROVER thermostat.
Do not put on the Motorad.
RockAuto Parts Catalog
has the Nissans in the States.
