This happens to me as well, and it was on both my trucks. Takes about 5-7 min to shift into 4th gear when its cold. The colder it is the longer it takes. Was never able to figure it out, i changed my fluids and my filter and added some lucas oil but still the same outcome. Never affected performance just gas mileage. Interested to see if this gets figured out. I was contemplating putting a heating pad from Katz or equivalent to heat the fluid up.

hmmm...my brother is a mechanic and works on just about anything. his best friend has been doing transmissions for about 10 years now. When I told him about Ashcroft's statement about the torque converter needing to warm up he instantly called bull****. He said that he has never heard of that in his life. My bro also said that he came across something similar to this in a Ford, maybe Expedition, and the transmission guy gave him 2 tubes of a trans fix that is the "be all, end all" of quick fixes in this department so he is going to ask about the results, consult with his buddy about my issue and let me know something soon. I will get back to this post when I learn something. I hate you have this problem, but at least now I know I'm not the only one. The ambient temp started to cool down right after I did a trans drain and fill, but I was still going back and forth with my fluid level trying to figure out if that's what was the cause. The level is fine so it is something else.

Lubegard Dr. Tranny Instant Shudder Fixx 19610 - Tranmission Treatment | O'Reilly Auto Parts

This is the additive advised by the transmission pro. The owner of the Expedition experiencing similar problems said that this helped a great deal with those final shift patterns and torque conversion

Yes both trucks same scenario, i figured it was just another LR 'quirk". If you try that stuff let me know how it works out.

I may end up trying the original LubeGard instead of their Dr. Tranny instant fix. But these are supposed to be good products. I will try it this weekend when I change the motor oil

Which trans fluid did you put into those trucks? I used Valvoline Dex/Merc. I wonder if changing the fluid to something else could bring a resolution

Texas has encountered some major rains and flooding, postponing my service plan. Along with changing the oil, I am going to pamper this transmission as well. This gives me another week to prepare my plan of attack and further discuss with trans pros. Either A) add LubeGard and see what happens or B) which may be more plausible, add a cleaner like SeaFoam for Trans and do a few more drain and fills with a new filter inbetween to see if that frees up whatever may be sticking in the mornings before it gets warmed up good. I just have to ask more questions. Please advise me if you learn anything in regards to the options I listed or an alternative. Thank you

Nobody has given any advice or feedback here so I posted on a transmission forum that really hasn't proven fruitful of information either except a solid "NO NO NO SEAFOAM, LUBEGARD, any additives !!" LoL

I still don't know what the problem is or what I can do for it except another drain and fill and filter. Not looking forward to it since I have to do a motor oil change and tire rotation as well but this AT issue is def not going away on its own and I have the sneaking suspicion that fluid and a filter won't do jack for it

I've been experiencing this on my 2000 Disco for the past two weeks. It has been getting a bit colder here in SW Washington, so I've been attributing the hesitation of the transmission getting into 4th to it. It only does it on the first drive of the day. Didn't have this issue last winter.
