Default Problem sunroofs!

Both of the sunroofs on my 99 TD5 have stopped working! Ive checked the current at the switches for both roofs with an ammeter, and there is current flowing, but there is still no movement from either of the roofs. Just wanted to know if this is a common problem, and if anyone has any suggestions as to what it could be and what I can do to fix it!?! Thankyou!

When the switches are depressed, no movement can be felt in sunroofs, but the switches do make a clicking sound as if the roofs are trying to activate. Also there is very bad water ingress from both roofs, could this have affected the motors, or the switches themselves? Is there a quick check for this? Can the sunroofs be opened manually, if so how? Thankyou!

Take every connector apart, remove the motors, dry everything. This is always step 1 when you suspect water. When you re-assemble lube everything, put di-electric silicone grease in every connector and wherever you suspect water might get at electronics. This goes for every connection on the entire vehicle, every header, every plug, every headlight, etc... corrosion will kill these trucks slowly if you let it, and it always shows up as intermittant or hellish to diagnose problems.

Yes, there is a small rectangular access plate in frony of the sun roof, that when removed you can use an allen wrech to manually open and close the sun roof.

Managed to manually open both of the roofs, and got the front roof working fine again. Covered the rails in greese and sprayed penetrating oil on to the cables coming from the motor. The rear sunroof is still very stiff and is very hard to open manually. Is there any other way to losen up the rear sunroof, as the motor can be heard trying to operate, but due to the resistance the motor encounters, it automatically shuts-off!

You are boarder line in trouble with the rear roof. The only thing you might try is to have someone work the switch while at the same time you try and help move it. This could work, and it can also completely die, if so, go to , http://www.roverlandparts.com/index....S&Category=373 for a good price on a used, guaranteed replacement sun roof.
