sunroofs not opening

Hi! I have a 1994 Disco 1 with two sunroofs and none of them are working. I can hear the motors running when I try to open both sunroofs, bot It seems that something is stuck there. Is this a common problem?

I heard somene say there is a plastic gear on the motor that operates the roofs - if you replace that you should be good, provided the rails are still good.
