Default problems that freeze you

Hello
I have a friend that called me today to have me ask about a problem he has on his 97 disco.I t seems he has leaking freeze plugs and his mechanic told him he has to remove the engine to replace them.Is this true? I have known others whereengines are not necessary to be pulled to change them.I believe they are the side freeze plugs not the ones between the trans. Thanks always.

I would power scrub the engine, don't get the ECU wet, and then check each plug. Might find that it has leaking head gaskets, freeze plugs are not a common issue with Rovers.

They should be changed out before the engine over heats and drops a sleeve, them he would be looking at a new engine.

Or just replace them with a block heater, they don't tell you to remove the engine to put one of those in.
