Default Problems Shifting Out of Park

We just bought a 03 LR Discovery SE7 with 57,000 miles. I love the way the car looks and the way it rides but I have ran into a little problem, which causes a big problem several times now. When I get in, it starts fine, idles fine, sounds great, but when I go to shift from Park to Reverse, etc... it won't release and let me shift. At first I thought I might be pushing on the break too hard.. I bought this for my wife and I have a 93 Ford F350 manual so I am use to having to push hard on clutches and breaks. I don't think this is the case though. Several times I am barely pushing on the brake pedal and it still won't shift out. But then I hear a little click sound and I know I can now reach down and shift it out of park.. You can definately hear a sound that lets me know that I can now shift.... Is this normal, I wouldn't think it is but maybe it is. I have no idea, I know it is frustrating when someone else is in the truck and you are left sitting there waiting for this little click to happen. Any help is greatly appreciated.. Thanks.

You should not be able to hearing the solonoid clicking, so my bet is that it is stuck and needs to be replaced.

Please be more specific. It does have a trailer wiring package for the tow kit but is that what is causing the truck to not shift from park once in a while. I read about a shift inhibitor but I didn't know what it was either. Please let me know what you mean about "Brake Switch first then call me about package removal." Thank you, I am just a dummy on these things.

I would say, it is not the brake switch cause you can hear a clicking sound when you step on the brake pedal.
I still believe it is the solonoid.
Do you actually have a trailor wire package to plug into?

I can hear the clicking in my 99 Disco II, but I don't have any issue shifting. The click is instantaneous when I press on the brake pedal. Maybe the fact that I can hear it means that I am about to have troubles too! BTW, I do not have the towing wiring package.
