You'll have to jack it into place to bolt it in.

Dang.

Yep jack it up, ideally with 2 jacks + wood blocks to support. Use a pry bar and sledgehammer to tweak the plate to align with the bolt holes.

My plate should already align since it's been on the truck for years lol its just going to be a delicate dance sliding it back under the tank and over the jack stands without dropping the tank down and damaging anything

Yes I should have checked for instructions before doing it. it came with no hardware, just the plate, from lrdirect. I guess I thought, how hard could this be... and went for it. Lesson learned...

i need to check on the breather hose and main hoses more thoroughly. By my estimation I was supporting maybe 80-100 pounds of weight, and the gas tank was full (200 pounds). So that leaves 100+ pounds tugging on the lines. I don't see how any of those lines could support that kind of weight... but they did... for now. Like I said, weird intermittent whine noise when running that I swear wasn't there before. Any ideas? It;s not very loud.. you have to put your head below the bumper to hear it, so maybe I just never noticed it before?
I have the steel version. THAT sucker is heavy. It definitely came with a full set of hardware AND an instruction sheet (rare for Terrafirma). I did a write up either here or in DiscoWeb that kind of identifies my hard learned lessons (like paying attention to the suggestion that you do the swap with the gas tank nearly empty). Also, did you mahange to get the hitch bolts to clear the plate? Mine required some "modification". I'll look for the pics.

I'd be on LRDirect about the missing stuff. I got mine there so I know they do send it.

Ugh, I even replied shortly after to that thread - should have remembered your post!

I should get on their ***... but instead I went on Mcmaster and ordered the 10.9 hardware. Probably going to replace those square nuts as well in favor of flange lock locknuts.

I don't have the rear hitch or factory bumper. I have the Greg davis, so fitting wasn't an issue. I noticed that the sizing on the alloy guard is not great, on the driver side, where the tank makes that notch, the plate is about 1" too narrow, leaving 1" of gas tank exposed. On the passenger side, it's 1" too long... so likely chalk it up to crappy QA once again.

I ordered the gearbox skid as well and it should arrive today. I have a big dent in the rear cross member from skidding on some rocks. Hopefully this helps. I later found this one http://www.asfir.com/land%20rover-discovery2/539062 which looks a lot better, but I have front cross member spacers and don't know if it would work.

I've never compared my hitch to any others, but I'm assuming it's factory (it looks like the hitch in several Atlantic British videos). If the hitch wasn't there, the skid plate would have bolted right in smooth as silk. With the bolt there, even if I had removed it (not just loosened it), it would never have gone back in. The photo angle isn't great, but the plate is actually notched out around the nut, not just the bolt extending beyond the nut. Probably could have made the notch smaller, but it's not in a critical location and it was easier just to lop that section off with the cutoff wheel.

As with many things you'll find on these trucks, no two are identical. Every one has minor (but sometimes significant) differences. Things tend to move around after nearly 20 years too.

Can you link to the gearbox skid you ordered? Definitely post some pics when you get it installed.
