Purchase this disco II?
I'm in the middle of a deal purchasing a 2001 discovery with 61400 miles. Took it for a test drive. There is a slight pull to the left, a different front right tire (same size as the rest) and the 3 amigos are on. Other than that everything else seemed fine. At this point I have scheduled an inspection at an LR dealer ( is this necessary). Should I get this inspected or take my chances? This price was $5200. Is this a good deal? At this point and price, should I get an extended warranty or just fix things as they go. It isn't that expensive so I'm not sure of the extended warranty. The local LR dealer said he can give me a bumper to bumper through LR for $3800 which is 3/36000 and a $250 deductible.
I'm thinking the price is right (? )I should pick it up get it aligned and have the three amigos fixed for the price of the dealer inspection. Any advice would be helpful.

The inspection is probably worth it. this way you will know what it may need and what it will cost. use that as leverage for $ negotiation. as for extended warranty, put $3800 in a money market account and use that for any repairs that may pop up down the road. I think extended warranties are little more than a way to fleece you from your $.

Get the inspection done. It will probably cost you around 100 dollars. Also, spend the 15 dollars to run a carfax history report. Use the results of these two reports to negotiate. I would not spend the 3800 on extended warranty. That is 78% of the price.
Ask them what is your "out of the door price". That will include the price + doc fees, tags, etc. Dealers usually will charge another 300 to 500 for this.
If the carfax and the inspection turns out to be good (Good engine, good transmission / transfer case / no accidents / no flood / no theft / etc.) than a $5000 out of the door price is a fair deal.

Ditto
The 3 Amigos may be nothing, still costing at least $200 to test clear and maybe some cheap part, and it can run a couple $2000 plus so you want that repaired as part of the sale.
Depending on how mechanical you are, and what shows up on the inspection should be the deciding factor on the warranty. If it is from Rover, yes it is expensive, but quite often they pay for them selves, sometimes many times over, mine sure did years ago.
